Class Pack 2

Whew! I can't believe we've made it this far.

Class Pack 2 includes a subclass for each of the core classes. If you haven't seen them, check out our first class pack, along with the Lovecraft Update and Magitech Update.

This is our second major supplement for D&D Next, and we've loved creating them so far. Following this, we'll be releasing the Wild West Update, and then bundling Lovecraft, Magitech, and Wild West together to make the Theme Pack, marking the third major supplement! When that's done, we'll have evened out the scale and released three subclasses for each base class. Maybe after that the Darkness Update, if we're feeling generous.

Expect a few different types of content in the coming weeks. We're going to start releasing races, complete with their subraces, rules agnostic resources like d100 tables, and maybe even some magic items. Also, we'll be publishing reader-submitted content for the first time on our blog, so stay tuned for that (it's great work and we're excited to share it with you.) We'll still be releasing subclasses, both random 3.5 conversions, original ones, and themed class packs.

One more thing: we want to hear from you. As always, we love your feedback on our classes themselves. There's a few other ways you can contribute:
  • Send a gaming question to middlefingerofvecna@gmail.com. This can be about DMing, playing, the meaning of life, getting a group together, or anything else. We'd love to do more Ask a DM articles, but we can only do that if you ask questions first.
  • Send us an email or leave a comment if there are any classes or races you'd like to see us write up here. There's plenty of stuff we haven't done yet, but we love a starting place.
  • If you want to send in your own content to see it published, you can send in a plaintext version to middlefingerofvecna@gmail.com. After we read it, we will need to edit it with you to a complete state, then we can make you a PDF and publish it under whatever name you like, including a link to a blog or site of your choosing.

The Middle Finger of Vecna is by far the most powerful, for it was the only one extended when Kas the Bloody-Handed maimed our lord, the Lich God.

  1. Reading the Reddit comments is rather hilarious, altough I agree with everyone when it comes to the War Hulk/Collossus. Messing with 5e´s system of bounded accuracy that much isn´t good, not to mention that it´s just way better to deal damage than the other archetypes.

Love reading your concepts as always, even if I don´t comment as much anymore, I´m looking forward to your future works!

  2. While I thought that the War Hulk was originally OP AF, perhaps when you reach the capstone it should go to 26 strength/constitution. That way your amazing buffs don't feel wasted at the end when you still have disadvantage on mental saving throws but your modifiers are the same as all other level 20 barbarians.

  3. Shouldn't the entropy domain give the bonus proficiency and entropy touch at level 1 not level 2 like all other domains?

    1. You're correct! Let me change that.

  4. Are you going to correct this file with the individual updates for each of the classes, like the arcane archer gaining the ability "Arcane Intuition" at 7th level instead of 10th? I am unsure what else was updated, but the class pack should be updated if the individual classes are updated. Otherwise, the class pack is essentially useless.

    1. To my understanding, I've kept it up to date (though I'm unsure how that mistake slipped through and into the class pack.) Rest assured that one is fixed and if I notice any other changes that haven't been updated, I'll be changing them.

  5. Changelog: 7/9/15: reports "War Hulk: No Time to Think: Now gains +1 Strength to a maximum of 25.". You're pdf file reports Strength maximum of 24. Which one is right?

By the way, I love all of these subclasses (from this and other posts by you). Will be incorporating into my campaign. Will give feedback as it comes from players.

    1. Trust the PDF over the changelog - I'll fix the changelog ASAP.

Glad you like our stuff! Happy Gaming!

  6. End of page 1 has some print missing. Is Path of the Colossus supposed to be a Barbarian subclass? The text on page 1 reads like this:

    "Primal Paths
Rage burns in every barbarian’s heart, a furnace that drives him or her toward greatness. Different barbarians attribute their rage to different sources, however. For some, it is an internal reservoir where pain, grief, and anger are forged into a fury hard"

Forged into a fury hard.. don't leave us hanging :o)

  7. These are great additions. but i think the oriental adventures setting has been ignored for far too long. How about a sub class pack that covers wu jen, shukenja, bushi, samurai, ninja, sohei, oriental barbarian and yakuza? It could even be spiced up with spirit folk, korobukuru and hengeyokai. All of a sudden Kara Tur would be revived in all its awesomeness.

    1. That would be pretty incredible actually. Maybe Sumo for a monk subclass (or would they be barbarians?). Any mention of a honor system would rock. I'd be happy to help.

    2. That's a really good idea! I'll put it on a special todo list.

    3. Sumo for monk would be amazing. It would have to be Monk as they are way to focused to be barbarian. The fame system from primeval thule would probably make a good starting point for a honour system.

  8. I'm not sure if this would break some aspect of the game, but have you considered making the war hulk become large? It would fit very will with the giant theme

    1. Funny you should mention that. I'm rewriting that exact subclass right now and large size is its first feature.

It didn't have this originally, because I wanted to directly adapt the original War Hulk from 3.5, which ended up being a tough sell for most people, hence the Redux.

  9. I got a question for Way of the Swordsage, can you prepare 2 or more of the same maneuvers per long rest, so that I for example can use Precisíon Attack twice in a day? Or must they all be different?

    1. You can only prepare each maneuver once, but you can refresh the maneuver by using an action to concentrate on it.
